The Italian Association for the Study of Animal Behaviour (SIE) was established in Pisa on May 18th, 1973 by Leo Pardi (Florence), Floriano Papi (Pisa), & Danilo Mainardi (Parma) together with their alumni and other Italian scientists interested in animal behaviour such as Mario Zanforlin (Padua), Daniele Bovet and Alberto Oliverio (Rome).
The current President of the Society is Stefano Turillazzi (University of Florence). The Society has about 100 members from universities and research institutions across Italy.
The study of animal behaviour is included in Bachelor and Master courses of most Italian Universities.
The SIE holds biannual meetings and joins the sister European societies at the European Conference on Behavioural Biology.
